Friends of Oakley Creek

The end of the year is almost here – but there are a few more weeks and some events going on that are looking for your support!

Last Working Bee for the year! Come along to the Community Working Bee at the OakleyCreek Walkway – on Sunday 3rd December, 2017, 10.00am-12.00noon. Meet up on the west side of the creek, access from the new path from Great North Road, Waterview, south of the tunnel vent stack or form the walkway – just follow the signs and the flags.

Rodent Monitoring: come help out with rodent monitoring on Saturday and Sunday (December 9/10). Meet up at the Unitec student carpark by Building 76 by 9am.

To celebrate the end of the year together join us at our picnic on Sunday 17th December,  from noon-3.00pm at the Harbutt Reserve down by the creek. Please bring a plate to share and join us to celebrate another year of protecting and restoring Oakley Creek.

Mt Albert Library

Looking for fun, free ways to keep your child learning and building their reading skills over summer? Sign up for Kia Māia te Whai- Dare to Explore, Auckland Libraries’ summer reading programme for children aged 5-13 years. Look out for the fliers and take your children along to Mt Albert Library to take part in this bilingual programme. Registration is open now.

Send some love:  Mt Albert Library is also a drop-box site for Sending Love, so please drop off your Christmas cards by December 6 for the elderly who will be alone this Christmas. Your hand-made or store-bought card and words of love will be very welcome. Phone 377 0209 for full details.

Get crafty in the festively decorated setting of Alberton;s Victorian ballroom with its towering tree. The Christmas wreath is a classic decoration usually hung on an exterior door. With origins in pagan traditions, it represents eternity, hope and renewed life for the coming Spring. In this focused workshop you will learn to make a beautiful wreath from flowers, branches and all natural plant materials with artist Marama Davis from Moon Lighting.

Exhibition: Here Come the Kerr Taylors: An Insight into Car Ownership in Early Auckland. Bring along the family to explore the house and learn about Auckland’s early car owners. Open all days except Monday and Tuesday, from 10.30am-4pm. Exhibition runs through until December 12. Cost: $10 (children free).
